he Society of Women Engineers (SWE), founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit educational and service organization. 2021 Christine Strain Memorial Scholarship
In November 2020, our dear friend, Christine Strain, passed away unexpectedly. Christine was a cornerstone member of the Southwest Michigan section of SWE (Society of Women Engineers). She was a simulation engineer at Whirlpool who possessed one of the most brilliant minds in problem solving design issues. Those that knew Christine also knew she was one of the most humble and caring individuals you would ever meet. She had a ‘Zen’ presence about her that would calm any storm or bring peace to any soul that had the honor and privilege of knowing her.
To honor Christine’s memory and legacy, the Southwest Michigan section of SWE has decided to bestow a $1,000 scholarship to a local high school senior. Just as Christine was passionate about seeing young women enter the STEM field, this scholarship’s purpose is to support young women pursuing STEM degrees and careers.
The scholarship will be allocated to a student identifying as a female, who has been accepted by a college into an Engineering, Computer Science, or Technology program. In general, a successful applicant is a problem solver, a leader, and a role model within her community. She should be an example to other students by being involved in extracurricular activities in school and in the community.
