Holiday Cookie Exchange – 3 – 4:30 pm on Wednesday, December 6 Thank you to all of our cookie exchange participants and for everyone who brought a toy to contribute towards Toys for Tots! Here are our three winners with their new matching SWE hats!

Annual Thanksgiving Potluck –11:30 am – 1 pm on Wednesday, November 15

Girl Scout Day – November 12th
We had over 40 scouts at the Benton Harbor Tech Center to explore STEM topics! Our Brownies and Daisies built model cars and learned about friction, our Juniors learned about different types of energy as they built balloon powered cars, and our Cadettes learned about circuit design as they soldered together a memory game. Thank you to all of our volunteers!

SWE members went kayaking on Paw Paw River through Third Coast Paddling!

Girl Scout Day – April 23rd
SWE held Girl Scout Day on April 24th, 2023! Over 30 Girl Scouts attended (Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors) to learn about Automotive Manufacturing. Special shout-out to Skylar Kleindienst for planning this awesome event, and special thanks to all of the volunteers!

Social Event – Glass Fusing at Water Street Glass Works
At the end of February, we got together to connect and unwind all while creating a tray with cut glass. The creations looked awesome, and we can’t wait to see what they look like once they’re fused.

Air Zoo Volunteering 
(in partnership with the Whirlpool WERLD program)- 
On February 25th, SWE and Whirlpool engineers participated in an event hosted by the Central Michigan SWE Section. Groups of girls competed in a challenge to build a hurricane-proof house. In addition, we showcased what engineering looks like at Whirlpool. 

Becoming an Effective Communicator
On March 3rd, SWE hosted a panel discussion around how to communicate effectively! This was an awesome event with a lot of actionable ways to improve. For example, are you formatting your emails so they can be read well on a phone? Special thanks to our panelists and to everyone who attended.

2022 and Previous Past Events:

Lakeland Coffee Hours
For Women’s History Month (with the theme “Promoting Healing, Promoting Hope”), SWE is sponsoring 3 “Free Coffee Hours” to show appreciation for our healthcare workers . During these hours, SWE provided 167 coffee drinks for Lakeland healthcare heroes! 

Becoming a Valuable Team Member
On November 12th, SWE hosted a panel discussion focused on becoming a more valuable team member. Thanks to all our panelists for their contributions and attendees for their questions! 

Engineer in a Box: Think Like a Programmer
New this year! SWE updated Girl Scout Day to be virtual event. This was a completely virtual event, where Girl Scouts got all the supplies delivered to their door. They learned about computer engineering and programming, how programs work in the real world, and had the opportunity to earn the Think Link a Programmer Badge Journey along the way. Stay tuned for Girl Scout Day next year!
